Trossachs Area Community Transport

Community buyout of Aberfoyle garage site completed on 28 February 2011 !

THE BIG LOTTERY FUND awarded £419,398 to the communities of Aberfoyle, Gartmore, Inversnaid, Kinlochard, Port of Menteith & Stronachlachar to buy, improve and run the local garage site. Local people have so far contributed £24,000, which is enough to allow access to the Lottery funding. Also, we have been awarded European funding of £24,404 from Forth Valley & Lomond LEADER and Scottish Enterprise support of £6,807 under the Rural Petrol Station Grant Scheme. Our Fundraising Appeal is still open since we are trying to get closer to our £35,000 overall target for local funding.

This community buyout will:

• bring a valuable asset into community ownership
• reduce the price of petrol and diesel
• ensure our local area’s importance is not diminished by transfer of essential services to somewhere with a fuel supply
• maintain Aberfoyle’s current position as a fully-serviced tourist destination
• bring new services to the area and the opportunity to create more in the future
• retain jobs at this local site
• ensure a fuel supply in the future for retired residents, local businesses and others.
